Most people would describe my work as abstract, but I prefer to say non representational rather than abstract. I don’t try to interpret nature or abstract subject or idea. I take the materials--canvas, paint, and sometimes paper, and interact with them in a way so as to create complex textures and color variations that come together for me as a whole, and create in me a sense of interest, surprise, and aesthetic pleasure. I love to experiment and am intrigued by the small visual treasures that spontaneously arrive through intuitive improvisation with the materials I use. I usually work on a piece for many months. I paint, layer, paint over, rework --allowing it to evolve in a natural, unforced way over time. I’m not striving for perfection; I value asymmetry, irregularity, restraint, randomness and imperfection. I am interested in the journey that the canvas takes. I do not name my pieces as they are not narrative or descriptive; I merely number them for reference. Art for me is an attempt to get in touch with non dualistic perception where words are obsolete. I hope that my work will engender in others a peaceful contemplation of beauty and life.
